BTS: Demo Kickoff Week

We see Demonstration Kickoff Week as a time for connection building–between cohort companies and key stakeholders in Hawaii’s energy ecosystem. And no, you didn’t miss our 2017 cohort announcement….Our newest cohort of companies will be sliding into your inbox in early 2017, so stay tuned!

We often get the question, “How fleshed out do you want our Demonstration Project to be before applying?” Our answer, “As fleshed out as possible.” Companies enter Demonstration Kickoff Week with varying ideas of what their scopes, budgets, and partners will look like, but all have an idea of how Hawaii fits strategically into their go-to-market strategies and plans for scaling (see table below).

Some companies…

How they entered Kickoff Week:

Had a clear idea of their scope, letters of commitment from partners, and vetted budget numbers

Purpose of Kickoff Week:

Confirm project partners and cost-share commitments

What they got out of Kickoff Week:

Slightly adjusted scope

Other companies…

How they entered Kickoff Week:

Had a tentative idea of their scope, soft commitments from partners, and rough budget numbers

Purpose of Kickoff Week:

Vet project scope and budget with partners, firm up partner commitments, and gain solid leads to potential partners to follow up with after Kickoff Week

What they got out of Kickoff Week:

New leads for project partners or revised scope that will be more impactful for long-term success

What’s next? Over the next 12-18 months, companies will finalize project plans and partners, and deploy demonstration projects in Hawaii or the Asia Pacific.
