Dennis Teranishi


Dennis the President and CEO of the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research (PICHTR), Energy Excelerator’s parent nonprofit. PICHTR,which was established in 1983, is a non-profit organization that accelerates technology commercialization to increase security, safety and economic opportunities in Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific.  Its focus is on renewable energy, agriculture, disaster management and dual-use technology.      

Bringing extensive experience in Hawaii’s business community…

Dennis was Vice Chairman and CEO of Hawaiian Host Chocolates for 14 years and currently serves on their Boards of Directors. Prior to that, he worked for 19 years at AMFAC, Inc., Hawaii’s largest corporation, ending his tenure as president of AMFAC Agribusiness, Inc. He is also on the boards of Island Insurance Co. Ltd., Island Holdings, Inc. and Kahua Ranch Co. Ltd; and is a Special Advisor to Emmaus Life Science Inc. and ItoEn USA.

With a background in agriculture…

Dennis received his Masters degree in soil science and plant nutrition from the University of Hawaii and his Bachelor’s degree in crop science from the California State Polytechnic University. He was also honorably discharged as a Captain from the U.S. Army. The government of Japan awarded Dennis the Foreign Minister’s commendation in 2010 and the Order of the Rising Sun in 2014 for his outstanding contributions to improve the understanding and friendly relations between the U.S. and Japan through economic and technical cooperation.

Outside of the office…

Dennis loves spending time with his children and grandchildren.
